About two years ago I passed by Randy at the post office in German Village and caught a brief glimpse at the button of his son on his chest only later piecing together that it was him. I whispered a silent prayer and think of him often still today. God's loving example is so evident in this mystery that you can almost touch it. This man was an angel on Earth. You know he went to heaven...was retruned to heaven.

Randy, Renee, & Brian are all being missed. Randy was so dedicated to his family and efforts to find Brian. Now... another anniversary of Brian's disappearance. I know Randy is up there watching over all of us. He has all the answers he would ever need and those of us left behind will never forget the man, father, brother, and friend that he was to all of us. Thinking of you...

I knew Randy, his Wife Renee and their two boys from our chuch. Randy and Renee were very dedicated to the choir. I loved hearing Randy play all his brass instruments but my favorite was the Saxaphone.

Randy and Renee displayed so much much love for each other and their unconditional love for the boys.

Since the death of Renee and the disappearance of Brian I watched a man with so much grief falling apart on the inside. Yet he continued to stay strong in his faith. I admired him for his continuing strength and determination to keep the story of Brian alive in the media and his never-ending devotional search.

They say God has a plan for all of us and I pray Randy is finally at peace with Renee and has found Brian. His work here is done. Its said we never walk alone and like the "Footprints in the Sand", Jesus said, "It was I who carried you." May he rest in peace and be in pain no more.

Sadly missed,

It's rare to meet someone like Randy ... so passionate, relentless, hopeful, kind, appreciative and honest. I interviewed Randy many times when I was reporting for NBC 4, and I will never forget him. I was so shocked and saddened to hear the news of his passing ... and yet it brings me great comfort to think of Randy at peace, reunited with his family in a place far better than our own, with a God more loving than we ever dared hope. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest...you will find rest for your souls" (Jesus, Matthew 11:28). "He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain" (Revelation 21:4). That's the peace I wish for Randy ... a peace that passes all understanding.

I have known Randy for a few years now, and knew Renee as well. Wow, what an amazing couple, with an amazing family! My prayers are with you Derek, in finding Brian and in finding peace in all of this. Randy worked so hard on the search and I hope that his work will continue through all of us. We who were touched by Randy should grasp onto his efforts. I think his heart is now with the love of his life, and at least there is peace in that.

Randy was like a lighthouse to me in such a dark time in my life. We became good friends while my niece, Holly Metzger Carruthers, was missing. He would call or email me to just to be supportive, and keep my spirits up. When we found Holly 3 months later in the Mohican River, Randy felt our pain too. He was a very genuinely nice person. I hope the search for Brian continues till hes found. Rest in peace, Randy. Lets hope we can find Brian! My sympathies to the family. I like to believe Randy has joined his family in Heaven.

My name is Dawn Risner, my niece Holly Metzger Carruthers went missing last December 18th in Lexington Ohio. I first heard of Randy Shaffer when he put up reward money(out of his own pocket) to try to help encourage people to help us with finding Holly. He and Crimestoppers worked with us to help us find Holly, without knowing anyone in our family. During our time of need, Randy and I became good friends. He always was supportive of our cause even while his search for Brian continued. Randy made the trip to Lexington for our candlelight vigil, to be supportive, in a nasty snowstorm. He definitely was my backup when i didnt know what to do. Randy always spoke lovingly of his family and friends. He was a very nice man and great friend. Hopefully his search for Brian will continue. Rest in peace Randy! You have touched many lives with your kindness and great strength. My prayers are with the family, God Bless! Rest in Peace Randy!
                               Sincerely,
                             Dawn Risner
