Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 and United Dairy Farmers, is pleased to recognize Upper Arlington Police Officer Josh Luke as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for April. Please read details below:
On February 2, 2018, the Walgreen’s Pharmacy located at 3141 Tremont Road Upper Arlington, Ohio was robbed by two male suspects. One of the suspects produced a handgun and jumped the pharmacy counter, while the other suspect stood as a lookout. After obtaining an undetermined amount of prescription medications, both suspects fled the store on foot. It was quickly determined that this robbery matched the M.O. of similar robberies occurring throughout the Columbus area and believed to have been committed by the same group of suspects.
On February 11, 2018, an employee of the CVS Pharmacy located at 1885 W. Henderson Road called Upper Arlington Police after a male suspect entered the store wearing a surgical mask. The suspect produced a handgun, later determined to be a pellet gun, and jumped the pharmacy counter. Officer Josh Luke was in the vicinity when the robbery call was dispatched and immediately responded to the scene as the suspect was carrying out the robbery. Once on scene, and prior to the arrival of any backup, Officer Luke deployed to a position in front of the store with his rifle. After the suspect had obtained an undetermined amount of prescription medications, he proceeded to exit the store. As the suspect exited the store, he was immediately put at gunpoint by Officer Luke and ordered to the ground. The suspect initially attempted to draw the pellet gun from his waistband, but it fell to the ground and broke into pieces. The suspect then complied with Officer Luke’s commands and surrendered without further incident. Officer Luke demonstrated tremendous restraint by not using deadly force during the encounter with the suspect. Subsequent investigation revealed that the suspect was the one who had acted as the lookout during the Walgreen’s robbery on February 2nd.
The award presentation will take place on Wednesday, April 4th, around 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 2nd floor, located at 379 W. Broad Street.
