Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 and United Dairy Farmers, is pleased to recognize Columbus Police Officer Matt Dunbar as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for July. Please read details below:
Officer Matt Dunbar of the Columbus Division of Police is being recognized for his unselfish and generous assistance to a 51-year-old west side man who was on the verge of homelessness, but wanted to turn his life around. In the course of his west side patrol assignment, Officer Dunbar came in contact with “Mike,” who spent his early years in an unstable environment, including periods of foster care, and over the years drifted into a life of drugs and minor skirmishes with the law. Officer Dunbar realized that Mike was sincere in establishing a new life. But Mike needed help. On his own initiative and using his personal funds, Officer Dunbar assisted Mike in securing a decent place to live on the west side. He also helped Mike obtain a temporary position as a power washer, and even purchased Mike a pair of boots appropriate for his new job. Officer Dunbar also initiated a Go Fund Me effort to assist Mike in his rehabilitation.
The award presentation, which will tell the rest of the story, will take place on Wednesday, July 11th, around 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 2nd floor, located at 379 W. Broad Street.
