Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 and United Dairy Farmers, is pleased to recognize Columbus Police Officer Richard Shaffner as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for April. Please read details below:
On November 7, 2016, Officer Richard Shaffner was driving home from work in his personal vehicle on I-70W at Wilson Road. Officer Shaffner observed an aggravated robbery suspect, wanted for several robberies, driving the vehicle used in a robbery. Officer Shaffner contacted the comm. Channel to advise them of his location. Officer Shaffner followed the suspect, providing his direction of travel via public service. Officer Shaffner continued following the suspect, unaware if he was still armed and unaware when his back-up would arrive. At 7:51am, OSP responded to back up Officer Shaffner and initiated the stop on US-23 South in Circleville. The suspect was taken into custody and was subsequently charged with F-1 Aggravated Robbery, case number 2016CRA025393. A CPD Robbery detective will be seeking a total of five indictments for aggravated robbery.
The award presentation took place on Wednesday, April 5th, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 2nd floor, located at 379 W. Broad Street.
