Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, is pleased to recognize S.W.A.T. Officer Oscar Singer as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for the month of November.
On August 31, 2010, Central Ohio Crime Stoppers featured the murder of Corey Hart as the Crime of the Week. Mr. Hart was killed on August 17, 2010, while coming to the aid of a woman who was about to be beaten by a man. After intervening, Mr. Hart was confronted by a man named Regis Dickerson, a friend of the man about to beat the woman. The two men exchanged words and as Dickerson began to walk away, he turned and shot Mr. Hart. Regis Dickerson escaped in an S.U.V. The homicide was featured as the Sept 5, 2010 Crime of the Week.
Information about Regis Dickerson was forwarded to Officer Singer, who has been a constant supporter of the efforts of Crime Stoppers, often requesting wanted person tips. Officer Singer then contacted Det. Milner. Between September 3rd and 15th, Officer Singer and Det. Milner spoke by telephone and text message over a dozen times. Officer Singer also spoke with Corey Hart’s fiancé and other citizens with vital information on the suspect. Officer Singer contacted the F.B.I. and enlisted their help and technology in tracking down Regis Dickerson, whose Facebook fan base and gang affiliated friends helped in his attempts to elude capture. Due to the determined efforts of Officer Singer, and the work of F.B.I. and Columbus police personnel, Regis Dickerson, wanted for Murder, Felonious Assault, Assault and Domestic Violence, was surrounded and arrested in a house where he had hidden out.
The award presentation, which will tell the rest of the story, will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd, starting between 9:45 and 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall located at 379 W. Broad Street.
