Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9 and United Dairy Farmers, is pleased to recognize Gahanna Police Detective Mike Lambert and Detective Sergeant Sheila Murphy as the recipients of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for March. Please read details below:
The Gahanna Division of Police responded to numerous breaking and entering complaints from October-Mid November 2016. Few reports had any evidence and only a couple of locations had surveillance video. Recognizing the need to proactively respond, Detective Mike Lambert and Detective Sergeant Sheila Murphy formulated a coordinated response using Gahanna Police Detectives and the Gahanna Police Crime Analyst to make the best use of available resources.
After spending countless hours on surveillance over several weeks, the preparation and time paid off. On 12-7-16, at 6:13 in the morning, Detective Lambert observed an individual, later identified as William Graham, loitering at a business located at the intersection of Cherry bottom Road and Morse Road. Detective Lambert aired the information on the radio and coordinated with Patrol Units and other Detectives working on the detail. William was stopped by Patrol Units and was found to have a large pry bar sticking out of his pocket. William was also in possession of a flashlight and screwdriver, which he attempted to conceal with his arms. While Officers on the scene were speaking with William, an alarm drop was received from a business in the plaza near where William had stopped and was standing. The front door frame was found to have fresh pry marks consistent with the other breaking and entering reports. William was placed under arrest for breaking and entering and possession of criminal tools. Additional charges will be filed against William for several other breaking and entering offenses in Gahanna that occurred in October and November. A subsequent search of his vehicle resulted in the seizure of additional evidence and clothing that will likely identify him in other similar offenses.
The award presentation took place on Wednesday, March 1st, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall, 2nd floor, located at 379 W. Broad Street.
