On July 25, 2018, at 11:29pm, Joseph Hayes was operating his 2001 Harley Davidson eastbound on I-70 near Alum Creek Dr. Mr. Hayes was in the far left lane when a Chevrolet Trailblazer, traveling in the lane to the right of Mr. Hayes, improperly changed lanes to its left. As the Trailblazer entered Mr. Hayes’ lane it struck his motorcycle sending it into the median wall. The motorcycle fell over and began to slide down the roadway next to the wall. Mr. Hayes was thrown from the motorcycle and sustained a head injury. A witness and the driver of the Trailblazer stopped at the crash scene. The driver of the Trailblazer saw Mr. Hayes’ condition then got back into the Trailblazer and fled the scene. CFD medic # 15 arrived and transported Mr. Hayes to Grant Medical Center in critical condition. Joseph Hayes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on July 27, 2018, at 2:40pm.
The witness observed the entire chain of events. She stated that the Trailblazer was blue in color with Indiana plates and the driver was a female black with star tattoos on her right leg. A photo of Joseph Hayes may be viewed on our website, www.stopcrime.org.
