Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect involved in Identity Theft and Credit Card Fraud in Columbus.
On Friday, February 23, 2017, an unidentified male used a cloned credit card, belonging to another, to make several fraudulent purchases. Since the victim still had physical possession of the credit card, it is believed that the cloned card was obtained by “skimming,” which is the newest and most popular way people become victims of identity theft. The victim was notified, via bank alerts, which allowed for the cancellation of the card before it could be used further. The suspect used the cloned credit card at multiple locations in Columbus and surrounding areas, including Champs Sports, Microsoft Store at Easton, Piada on Sawmill Road, and Kroger on E. Main Street. Photos of the suspect may be viewed below.
