This week’s “Crime of the Week” focuses on a series of Robberies which took place in the Columbus, Sunbury, and Marengo areas of Central Ohio.
On Monday, May 15, 2017, Chase Bank, located at 655 N. High St. in Clintonville/Columbus, the Middlefield Bank at 492 West Cherry Street in Sunbury, and the US Bank at 28 South Main Street in Marengo were all robbed within a few hours of each other. In all three incidents, the suspect(s) descriptions were similar in physical appearance, clothing, and method of operation, presenting the teller with a threatening note that demanded cash. After the tellers complied, the suspect(s) fled the bank on foot. The Columbus and Sunbury robberies are the same suspect, wearing the same clothing, while the robbery in Marengo is a different suspect. Suspect #1 is described as: Black/Male, late 20’s-early 30’s, 5’8″-5’9″, 200lbs, wearing a camo ball cap and a white or cream color shirt. Suspect #2: Black/Male, wearing blue jeans, an Adidas windbreaker with three white stripes down the sleeves, red baseball cap and black shoes. In each robbery, it is believed the suspect vehicle is a dark gray or black 4-door midsize sedan with a second individual driving the vehicle. As no weapon was displayed, it is unknown if the suspects were armed. Although only one suspect entered the bank(s) at a time, the working theory is that all three robberies are related and the two suspects switched/ swapped out who went in the bank and who drove the car during each robbery. Surveillance photos of the suspects can be viewed below.
