CPD Officer Steve Smith – Officer of the Month

Officer Steve Smith is a 26-year veteran of the Columbus Division of Police who has held assignments in Patrol, SRB-Enforcement, Narcotics, and since 2000 in the Strategic Response Bureau – Community Liaison Section. Officer Smith worked as the Community Liaison Officer (CLO) for the old 1 Pct in the Short North and then transitioned to the new 4 Pct covering Campus and parts of the Short North.
He is the most active officer in the CLO-North section, covering 15-20 community, block watch, public, campus, and other meetings, having contact with thousands of citizens every month, responding to hundreds of email and phone messages each month, working closely with business associations like the Short North Business Association, various committees at The Ohio State University, and officers throughout the Division of Police.
Officer Smith is very energetic and always available for people to go to when they need something done and done right! Officer Smith still patrols the streets of Columbus and is actively responding to calls for service, making arrests (recently assisting in the arrest of a rape and robbery suspect in Iuka Park), and solving the problems that are brought to his attention by citizens and officers alike. Officer Smith receives compliments on a regular basis from not only the citizens of Columbus, but also the Patrol and other officers of the Columbus Division of Police – that says a lot about the type of person he is.
For his dedication, expertise, and quality of work that he does regularly, without complaint, and above all standards, we are happy to name Officer Steve Smith Central Ohio Crime Stoppers Officer of the Month for July 2012.
