Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, is pleased to recognize Columbus Police Officers Mike Neal and Zach Weekley as the recipients of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for the month of July.
On May 29, 2010, at approximately 11:08 pm, Officers Neal and Weekley were working at Colonial Village when they observed a vehicle parked at the end of Rand Ct. As the officers approached the vehicle they could see that it was unoccupied. Officer Neal approached the passenger side and could see that the keys were in the ignition and there was a purse on the back floor. Officer Weekley approached the driver side and removed the keys from the ignition.
Officer Neal walked around the south side of 3533 Rand Ct to the back of the building and Officer Weekley began to walk around the north side of the building. Officer Neal shined his flashlight towards the north end of the building and observed a female white naked from the waist down and a male black lying on the ground with his pants unzipped. The female was on top of the male and they were having sex. Officer Neal could see that the male was holding a small object in his right hand. At this time the male pushed the female off him and ran north around the north side of the building and the female ran towards Officer Neal. The female began yelling “he has a gun, he has a gun.” Officer Neal radioed to Officer Weekley that the male was running and that he was supposed to have a gun.
Officer Weekley observed the male running from the rear of the building at a high rate of speed and trip over some tree branches that were on the ground and fall to the ground. The male attempted to get back on his feet and Officer Weekley ordered him to the ground at gun point. The male was then secured in the rear of the cruiser. The female informed Officer Neal that the male held a small gun to her head and told her that he would blow her head off. The female stated the male made her go to the ATM and take out cash and that he took that cash and her cell phone and cigarettes. The female stated the male made her drive to 3533 Rand Ct at gun point where he made her have sex with him in the rear of the building. Officers retraced the path the male ran and recovered a small silver handgun.
The award presentation will take place on Wednesday, July 7th, at 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall located at 379 W. Broad Street.
