Sgt. Jerry Ehrsam named Officer of the Month [Video]

Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, is pleased to recognize Columbus Police Sgt. Jerry Ehrsam as the recipient of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for the month of November.

On October 17, 2009, CPD Patrol officers responded to a report of a double shooting at 1897 N. 4th Street. Two females were found to be shot and were transported to OSU Hospital in critical condition. The suspect fled the scene in a vehicle and a description was aired. Patrol Administrative Sgt. Jerry Ehrsam (who was not at the scene but working in CPD Headquarters in the 580 patrol office) heard via his police radio the suspect description and began “working the computer” to gain additional information on the suspect. Sgt. Ehrsam contacted members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to start a “ping” of the suspect’s cell phone. Due to Sgt. Ehrsam’s self initiation and a “get involved from his office” mindset, this suspect is awaiting trial on numerous felonies which include aggravated murder.

The award presentation took place on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall located at 379 W. Broad Street.
