Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, along with the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, is pleased to recognize Columbus Police Officers Wes Hurley and Josh Wagner as the recipients of the Bryan Hurst/Tony Luzio Officer of the Month Award for the month of October.
While responding to a 911 dispatch call regarding erratic driving on northbound Route 71, Officers Wes Hurley and Josh Wagner became involved in a 3-hour shootout with 37-year old Jason Farnsworth. During the course of the shootout, Officer Hurley was hit in the chest by a bullet from the assailant; fortunately, he was saved by his bullet-resistant vest. Officer Josh Wagner then came on the scene and drove directly into the line of fire to protect Officer Hurley. Officer Wagner was hit in the jaw by a bullet. These two officers went above and beyond the call of duty, which is why we are proud to name them Officers of the Month for the month of October. We also want to recognize all officers who responded by presenting a plaque to various substations throughout the city.
The award presentation will take place on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:00am, at the Fire Fighters Union Hall located at 379 W. Broad Street. Both officers will be in attendance to receive their awards as well as a host of Commanders to accept awards for others who responded to the scene.
Any questions, please contact Kevin Miles, Central Ohio Crime Stoppers, at 614-206-6315.
